I've Just written an article on what happens when your narcissistic mother or father dies. This is a situation that comes up not infrequently in therapy, where a client may be going well in therapy and then an unexpected deal comes. This is more likely to be the case when dealing with an aging narcissist, which is the most difficult position to be in because it means that the adult child has spent their entire lives trying to please and appease the NPD parent and the rigors of age makes the condition worst.
