Narcissist aware NPD, devastated

Post by Agkingsmill »

OK, know how a child hears a whole conversation and fixates on the one dirty word you said in the course of the whole conversation... that's how my husband learned he's NPD. And he's fixated & devastated... he'd been in counseling 2 years before he learned this, but now I see him spiraling b/c of this revalation. Without a doubt, it's true... life is very tough. I am co-dependent and working very hard to manage this. Any advice?

Hi Agkingsmill,
How did your husband find out that he has NPD? Did the counselor tell him this? Do you think he has NPD? Narcissists behave in certain defined ways and if he is upset about being told he is a narcissist then, my suggestion would be that he isn't a narcissist at all. NPD's don't think and act the way your husband is. They would not be fazed at all, they would laugh or they would get angry at the suggestion they are not perfect. But they would not be devastated. Hope this helps, but it's probably made you more confused! Please ask if you need more information.

Best wishes,

Beth
