What is Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder

Post by Beth McHugh »

The condition is unrelated to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) which is an anxiety disorder and involves obsessive behaviors such as checking doors and windows, compulsive handwashing, and ordering objects by size, color and position as well as rigidity in everyday behaviors.

OCPD by comparison is a personality disorder which develops in very early adulthood and can be diagnosed after the age of 25. It is often confused with Asperger's Disorder as they do share some mild similarities and many a client I have been asked to be checked for Asperger's have been found to have OCPD instead.
