Most people have some awareness of this disorder, often through newspaper articles involving court cases where the accused has been found to suffer from borderline personality disorder(BPD). The other public belief is that people who self-harm have BPD.
However, BPD has many facets and you may in fact be friends with or have a family member who has this disorder without realising that some of their less desirable actions actually constitute traits of the disorder.
